Japan Railway Group Provide Muslim Prayer Room At Osaka Station

In a first for the Japan Railway group, West Japan Railway Co. opened a worship facility in Osaka Station on Wednesday, with the aim of better serving foreign travellers.

Although the facility is designed mainly for Muslims from Indonesia and Malaysia, individuals of any religion can use the two rooms free of charge, JR West said.

Each room measures about 30 sq. meters. One is for males and the other is for females. Information is provided to help Muslims face the right direction for prayers.

Many railway companies are improving services for foreigners in Osaka, a city already known for attracting large numbers of tourists, mainly from Asia.

Nankai Electric Railway Co. opened a religious facility in late September at its Namba Station in Osaka.
